Alonso Aravena, Ph.D.
Dr. Alonso Aravena received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Baylor University in 2022, specializing in Community Analytics. He obtained his Sociology BA and his Communication MA from Universidad de Playa Ancha in Valparaiso, Chile. He has worked in applied social research projects for Chilean universities and has taught social science college courses for international students, mostly focused on Sustainable Development and Latin American studies, from 2014 to 2018. His research interests include social inequality, stratification, and exclusion, as well as their applications on local development and higher education. His Master’s thesis examined how gender inequality and social class in Chile were affected by the 2015 national education law, which explicitly banned profiting for University administrations, as well as guaranteed full funding for incoming students who belong to the sixty percent lowest income households in the country.
