Dr. Kate Weaver

Dr. Catherine (Kate) Weaver is associate dean for students and associate professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. She is a distinguished scholar at the Strauss Center for International Security & Law, where she is the founding director of Next Generation Scholars Program. Kate also chairs the university’s Graduate Assembly Academic Committee, the President’s Award for Global Learning steering committee, and the Truman Scholarship committee.

Kate’s research focuses on transparency in international development aid, reforming global economic governance, and the politics of data in the world economy. She has developed methods to track and dynamically geomap aid and climate adaptation, and writes about the shifting power, players and paradigms in governing the global economy. Her latest project, the Global Indices Network (GIN), examines the interdependent power and pathologies of global indices.

Kate also co-directs (with Drs. Mike Findley and Rachel Wellhausen) Innovations for Peace and Development, an interdisciplinary research lab devoted to alleviating global poverty and peacebuilding. IPD works with the World Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development, Development Gateway, the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, and the United States Institute for Peace. She also works closely with the Eleanor Crook Foundation, and serves on the Board of Directors of Bread for the World.

Kate is author of the multiple award-winning “Hypocrisy Trap: The World Bank and the Poverty of Reform” (Princeton University Press), and numerous articles and book chapters in International Organization, Review of International Political Economy, Review of International Organizations, Cambridge University Press, and Oxford University Press, among others. She is also co-editor of “Handbook of Global Economic Governance” (with Manuela Moschella, 2014) and “International Political Economy and the Transatlantic Divide” (with Nicola Phillips, 2010).
