Food as a Foundation for Health

Waco Family Medicine is a federally qualified health center serving Central Texans, with a particular focus on expanding access to care for underserved populations. Recognizing that health extends beyond the exam room, the organization integrates food security screening and support into patient care.

Join leaders from Waco Family Medicine for a behind-the-scenes look at how healthcare providers can address food insecurity as an essential part of patient health and well-being. The tour will feature Alfred Solano and Doug McDurham of the Waco Family Medicine Foundation, along with Dr. Alex Jones Adesina, family physician and Chief Impact Officer.

Following the tour, attendees are invited to continue the conversation at Thrst, a locally owned, Black-owned coffee shop across the street, for informal discussion about opportunities to collaborate with healthcare providers in their own communities.

World Hunger Relief

Growing Food, Cultivating Community

World Hunger Relief is a Waco-based nonprofit working to alleviate hunger through sustainable agriculture, education, and community engagement. Through its educational farm and community-based initiatives, the organization demonstrates how local food systems can help address food insecurity while fostering environmental stewardship and stronger communities.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about World Hunger Relief's approach to sustainable food production, hands-on education, and community partnerships. The visit offers a chance to explore the connections between agriculture, food access, and long-term solutions to hunger.

After the tour, linger at the farm store and coffee shop, enjoy the farm, and continue the conversation. We'll reflect on how people and organizations across sectors can bring their different strengths together to end hunger in our communities and build a stronger local food system.
